Sticky Sesame Tofu with Rice

Crispy, golden tofu coated in a sweet and savoury sticky sesame sauce – this dish is packed with flavour and perfect for a quick and satisfying meal. Served with fluffy rice and fresh veggies, it’s a balanced and delicious way to enjoy plant-based protein.


Ingredients (Serves 4)

πŸ›’ 1 block (400g) firm tofu, pressed and cubed

πŸ›’ 2 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)

πŸ›’ 1 tbsp sesame oil

πŸ›’ 1 tbsp soy sauce

For the sticky sesame sauce:

πŸ›’ 3 tbsp soy sauce

πŸ›’ 2 tbsp maple syrup or agave

πŸ›’ 1 tbsp rice vinegar

πŸ›’ 1 tbsp sesame oil

πŸ›’ 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated

πŸ›’ 2 cloves garlic, minced

πŸ›’ 1 tbsp cornflour + 2 tbsp water (to thicken)

πŸ›’ 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds

For serving:

πŸ›’ 2 cups cooked rice (jasmine or brown rice)

πŸ›’ 1 cup steamed broccoli or other veggies

πŸ›’ Spring onions, sliced (for garnish)


How to Make It:

1️⃣ Prepare the tofu – Pat dry the tofu and cut into cubes. Toss with cornflour and soy sauce until evenly coated.

2️⃣ Crisp up the tofu – Heat sesame oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the tofu and cook for 5-7 minutes, flipping occasionally, until golden and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.

3️⃣ Make the sauce – In the same pan, add soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Stir well and let simmer for 2 minutes.

4️⃣ Thicken the sauce – Mix cornflour with water, then stir into the sauce. Cook for another minute until thick and glossy.

5️⃣ Coat the tofu – Return the crispy tofu to the pan and toss until fully coated in the sticky sesame sauce. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.

6️⃣ Serve & enjoy – Plate up with cooked rice, steamed broccoli, and a garnish of spring onions.
