Sticky Sesame Tofu with Rice
Crispy, golden tofu coated in a sweet and savoury sticky sesame sauce – this dish is packed with flavour and perfect for a quick and satisfying meal. Served with fluffy rice and fresh veggies, itβs a balanced and delicious way to enjoy plant-based protein.
Ingredients (Serves 4)
π 1 block (400g) firm tofu, pressed and cubed
π 2 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)
π 1 tbsp sesame oil
π 1 tbsp soy sauce
For the sticky sesame sauce:
π 3 tbsp soy sauce
π 2 tbsp maple syrup or agave
π 1 tbsp rice vinegar
π 1 tbsp sesame oil
π 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
π 2 cloves garlic, minced
π 1 tbsp cornflour + 2 tbsp water (to thicken)
π 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
For serving:
π 2 cups cooked rice (jasmine or brown rice)
π 1 cup steamed broccoli or other veggies
π Spring onions, sliced (for garnish)
How to Make It:
1οΈβ£ Prepare the tofu β Pat dry the tofu and cut into cubes. Toss with cornflour and soy sauce until evenly coated.
2οΈβ£ Crisp up the tofu β Heat sesame oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the tofu and cook for 5-7 minutes, flipping occasionally, until golden and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
3οΈβ£ Make the sauce β In the same pan, add soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Stir well and let simmer for 2 minutes.
4οΈβ£ Thicken the sauce β Mix cornflour with water, then stir into the sauce. Cook for another minute until thick and glossy.
5οΈβ£ Coat the tofu β Return the crispy tofu to the pan and toss until fully coated in the sticky sesame sauce. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
