Ingredients (Serves 4)
๐ 1 block (400g) firm tofu, pressed and cubed
๐ 2 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)
๐ 1 tbsp sesame oil
๐ 1 tbsp soy sauce
For the sticky sesame sauce:
๐ 3 tbsp soy sauce
๐ 2 tbsp maple syrup or agave
๐ 1 tbsp rice vinegar
๐ 1 tbsp sesame oil
๐ 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
๐ 2 cloves garlic, minced
๐ 1 tbsp cornflour + 2 tbsp water (to thicken)
๐ 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
For serving:
๐ 2 cups cooked rice (jasmine or brown rice)
๐ 1 cup steamed broccoli or other veggies
๐ Spring onions, sliced (for garnish)
How to Make It:
1๏ธโฃ Prepare the tofu โ Pat dry the tofu and cut into cubes. Toss with cornflour and soy sauce until evenly coated.
2๏ธโฃ Crisp up the tofu โ Heat sesame oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the tofu and cook for 5-7 minutes, flipping occasionally, until golden and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
3๏ธโฃ Make the sauce โ In the same pan, add soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Stir well and let simmer for 2 minutes.
4๏ธโฃ Thicken the sauce โ Mix cornflour with water, then stir into the sauce. Cook for another minute until thick and glossy.
5๏ธโฃ Coat the tofu โ Return the crispy tofu to the pan and toss until fully coated in the sticky sesame sauce. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
